Under the name “Discovering the Chopin Family”, the association came into being in 1997 to prepare the CHOPIN Year 1999, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the death of the famous composer-musicien.

The Lorraine origins of his paternal ancestors, the genealogy and history of this family and the places where they lived had been revealed in the PhD of Professor Gabriel LADAIQUE.

In 3 years, a book has been published, conferences and exhibitions presented, a tourist circuit established, an annual concert organised.

The Association has achieved an international level and, taking into account this dimension, has now taken the name

CHOPIN CULTURAL RESEARCH CENTRE

Situated in the heart of Lorraine, in the centre of Europe, it is the only association to continue genealogical and historical research and to keep those bearing or related to the name of Chopin in touch in France and abroad. More than 2,000 people are presently listed as being related to Frederick CHOPIN.
